Celebration of St. Thomas’ Abbey

Red for the blood of the St. Thomas the Martyr. Yellow for the vast wealth and economic importance of St. Thomas' Abbey for the city of Dublin. Blue for the river Poddle, the water course controlled by the Abbey and a symbol of the strife between the Abbey and the citizens. These were the ideas that inspired the banner and flags I designed for Dublin City Council pageant in celebration of the medieval St. Thomas' Abbey. In October 2017 DCC held a festival in the Liberties to commemorate the history of the Abbey. At the same time DCC hosted an international seminar presenting the discoveries unearthed through archaeological excavations on Thomas Street on the site where the Abbey once stood
